PG PROGRAMME
Department of Public Health Dentistry Saveetha Dental College, was the first to start MDS Program in Public Health Dentistry in the state of TamilNadu in 2005. The course prepares the students to face the challenges through multi disciplinary approaches that apply latest scientific knowledge, common sense and then team work to important oral health problem. It also involves in rigorous training in the core disciplines of Public Health Dentistry including Planning of Oral health Services, behavioural management and statistics.
1. Hands-on training in Priniciples of Dental Public Health – Planning of National Oral Health Programme – Organization, teamwork, Implementation, assessing SWOT Analysis etc., This training enables a Post Graduate to be capable of designing a nation-wide oral health care programme.
This reflected in our planning of a National level oral health program in 77 cities, with the manpower of 251 doctors, 516 dental students, 300 volunteers which entered the “Guinness Book of World Records” by our institution.
2. The department has also mingled with satisfactory, legendary tie-ups with statuary bodies such as Institute of Public Health (IPH) and other voluntary agencies which provides ample opportunities for the post-graduates to get exposure to anthropological studies in relation to various communities.
3. The Department is also proud to be a part of “Chief Ministers Dental Health Programme” in our state which delivers oral health care services for the school children. This provides the hands-on experience for the post-graduates in managing children by applying behavioural sciences in dentistry.
4. Research is another challenging task where not only knowledge is enough but also, training and opportunities are equally important. The department has stepped into another successful milestone of conducting epidemiological studies, clinical trials and patency development programmes which arouses innovation and discoveries in dental public health.
5. The department of Public Health Dentistry (MDS), Saveetha Dental College, has now successfully developing a “Caries free organization”, among corporate sectors and schools via special oral health care programmes.
6. The concept of preventive dentistry i.e ART and Pit and Fissure sealants goes without saying, that our post-graduates are well trained in those areas.
7. Each post-graduate is trained in developing a oral health policy draft for a regional area which recommends the preventive strategies along with scientific data.
