A one-day certificate programme on Palliative care was conducted by RMD Specialities Hospital at the RMD Pain and Palliative Care Centre, Maduravoyal on 30th Sep 2022. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Mary Ann Muckaden, Prof. and Head, Dept. of Palliative Medicine, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai. The speaker is an honoured personality in Palliative Medicine in the country, who has championed the cause of Palliative Care throughout Maharashtra and promoted policy changes in India.  

The event commenced with a brief intro regarding the eminent speaker, the RMD group, and the Saveetha Dental College. Dr. Muckaden elaborated on the shortfalls in Palliative Care, along with her extensive experience with end-of-life care in hospice and hospital settings. For a better understanding of the attendees, concepts such as Fear, breaking bad news, the need for active listening, the essence of proper communication, the WHO analgesic ladder, and symptom management, were explained. The programme concluded with doubt-clearing and panel discussion sessions; the speaker invited everyone to join hands for dynamic participation in the field of palliative care in India.    

The programme was attended by post-graduate students from the Department of Public Health Dentistry, House-surgeons, and faculties Dr. Jishnu Krishna Kumar and Dr. Roland Prethipa.
