As a part of Oral Health Promotional activities, Target populations needing special care are continuously being identified and brought in to the radar of providing Affordable quality, oral health care, by the department. One such society identified is SCARF in Chennai.

Schizophrenic Research Foundation (SCARF), a mental health center and nonprofit organization based at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, offering a multidisciplinary, comprehensive range of psychiatric care and rehabilitation services. SCARF India was founded in 1984 by a group of mental health professionals and philanthropists headed by Padma Bhushan Dr M Sarada Menon. SCARF has been a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center since 1996.

A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between SCARF & Public health Dentistry department, Saveetha Dental College for a period of 2 years from 2022 to 2024. Scope of MOU is to offer a quality, affordable oral health care to patients suffering from Schizophrenia, Alzhimers’s and Dementia, who are identified through SCARF Society.

As an action plan and a first step towards the collaboration, A treatment camp was planned for the in patients of SCARF foundation, in Thiruverkadu.Around 50 patients were screened and rendered basic oral health care.
