UBA - Feb 2022 - Public Health Dentistry

Public Health Dentistry Department of Saveetha Dental College, had trained and calibrated students to take part in Unnat Bharath Abhigyan (UBA), Baseline Household Survey form. Along with basic details on demography, and basic amenities, information on government scheme utilisation, land holding and life stock details were recorded by II and I year BDS students.

Perceived oral health needs of students were also recorded. This project proved to be a hands on experience regarding community based survey and health needs assessment.

Awareness Programs - Jan 2022 - COVID Prevention

A series of Oral health education lectures and COVID precautionary measures in general were given to industrial employees and inhabitants of old age home in and around 15 kms radius of Poonamallee. around 350 people participated and benefitted from the awareness lecture.

November 2021 - Out Reach Activities

The out reach programmes in the month of November was planned within 15 km radius of the institution. Organisations like “National urban Livelihood” in Avadi and Thiruvallur were visited and treatment camps were conducted in their premises. Corporate offices, including FPL Motors and Hyundai were visited to deliver oral health care services as part of their corporate social responsibility. “Saveetha Smile Squad” has always aimed at delivering timely care to the school children, on the same note, a screening and treatment camp was planned for school going children and general public of erayamnagalam village. A total of 200 people benefitted out of the programmes conducted for the month.

Oral Health Screening & Treatment Camp - October 5th week

A total of four camps were organised in the closing week, for the month of October. Off which 2 were camps for the general public (Mannur & Valarpuram Village), one was for the corporate employees (FPL Motors) and one was for the construction labourers (Park Inn, ECR); on account of Builders day celebration. A total of 250 participants benefitted out of the camp and an active referral was done for 40 patients, who required further complex dental procedures.

Out Reach - Dhoot Productions - Company Workers - 29.10.2021

Shoot Productions is a Wire Manufacturing Company for Bikes near Mannur in Thiruvallur district, located 25 kms from SDC. As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility towards their employees, they arrange for an annual general and dental check up. This year, the team from dept of public health dentistry, Saveetha Dental College visited the employees on spot and performed screening for about 100 employees, and rendered basic dental care like oral prophylaxis and restorations. apart from this a group health education session emphasising on oral hygiene maintenance was given.

Oral Health Screening & Treatment camps - October 3rd week

Third week of October, the department concentrated on rendering services to employees and General public as well. first camp was scheduled on 20.10.2021 at Hyundai service centre at Vanagaram, at a 3km radius from the college. The organisers had requested for a screening camp with a request for an interactive educative and tobacco cessation session for the employees. The out reach programme concluded by screening around 70 employees. Second camp for the week was organised by “Dreamz Foundation”, on 23.10.2021, at Navalur (15km from the college). Basic treatment procedures along with group health educative sessions were conducted for the general public. This week was winded off with more than 100 direct beneficiaries getting oral health service on spot.

Oral health Screening & Treatment Camps - October first week - 2021

Oral health screening and Treatment camps were planned on 7th, 9th and 11th of October 2021. General Population in rural areas like Kadambathur village, Pamapalayam, Poonamallee (CRPF); Thiruvallur district, on those respective days. Free Oral Health Screening and basic oral care service were rendered on site and collectively more than 100 people participated and benefitted from the program.

Awareness Lecture - "World Hospice & Palliative Care Day" - NHM Nurses - 8.10.2021

On account of the "World Hospice & Palliative Care Day", an awareness lecture was planned along with RMD trust for the Nurses, working under National Health Mission Scheme. The topic covered on how the nurses can play a role in oral health screening and early identification of oral cancer cases, during their community visit. the interactive lecture was benefitted by over 40 participants, followed by a 15 minutes question and answer session.

Out Reach - Oral Screening & Treatment Camp - Omni Bus Owners Association - Koyambedu

An out reach program was organised on 1st October 2021, jointly by department of public health dentistry and Omni bus driver association, Koyambedu. A total of 187 drivers participated and benefitted from the camp. a total of 25 patients were treated on sight and one on one health education and tobacco cessation counselling was given to necessary participants. a mass awareness lecture on oral cancer was also given as part of the program. The program was well received by the organisers and the beneficiaries. a total of 15 active referrals were done to oral surgery and prosthodontics for further management.
